We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family on Thursday and with Sharon’s family on Saturday. While waiting for dinner to be ready, two of my brothers-in-law asked if I wanted to go shoot hoops at the park down the street. I figured what the heck. So, we picked up a friend on the way to the park.
After a short warmup, we started a game of 2 on 2. About 2 minutes into the game, I jammed my ring finger against the ball while someone else was going for the ball. It hurt like hell, but I shook it off and kept playing. We played for probably an hour. My finger hurt the entire time.
When we got back to the house, I tried to get my wedding ring off using soap and water. To no avail - the finger was already too swollen. So, I put ice on it several times all evening and took some Alleve.
When I awoke on Sunday, my finger was completely swollen and covered with lots of purple bruising. The ring was cutting into my finger and that hurt more rhan the injury.
So, after church, we went to the emergency room. Yes, they had to cut off my wedding ring. Actually, they had to cut it into 2 pieces because they couldn’t bend it after making only one cut. Then they took x-rays and determined the finger was fractured. Now I get to wear a metal splint. Sigh.
