Last night Sharon and I had our first “date night” since James was born. To celebrate our birthdays, we finally went to see a musical at the Goodspeed Opera House (even has a Wikipedia entry!). The show was Pirates of Penzance - a Gilbert and Sullivan musical. Neither of us had seen it before, so it was a nice surprise: funny, entertaining, and very well done. We really enjoyed it.
This was also our first time attending a show at the Goodspeed. I was amazed at how small the theater actually is. Not that I minded - there are really no bad seats. And of course we had great seats in the front row of the center mezzanine. Since the theater is so small, the mezzanine is actually not far from the stage.
At one point, it looked like the Goodspeed was going to move to a new location in Middletown, CT. That was a couple years ago and it looks like that stupid idea has died, at least for now. The Goodspeed just would not be the same anywhere else.
